Error retrieving encryption key. General ODBC Error: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Login failed for user 'DOMAIN\User'. Native error: 18456 when navigating Financial Edge after updating to patch 24.

When navigating within Financial Edge, a user may receive -  Error retrieving encryption key. General ODBC Error: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Login failed for user 'DOMAIN\User'. Native error: 18456
OR
Error: Provider not initialized

This may be seen when searching for vendor or employee records, navigating to a Vendor's EFT Bank tab, opening time sheet batches, and other areas within the system.
For version 7.87 patch 24:
  1. Log into Windows as a user with SQL Server access and rights to update user passwords: What SQL rights are needed when updating Financial Edge or Education Edge to patch 24 or higher
  2. Download the attached Plugin.zip
  3. Ensure all users have exited The Financial Edge and that you have a current, valid backup of the database.
  4. Ensure that the database is running on the server.
  5. Save the attached file to the server's The Financial Edge\PLUGINS folder where The Financial Edge is installed. The plug-in only needs to be run once from the server.
  6. Unzip the utility and ensure the files have unzipped directly into the "PLUGINS" folder.
  7. Register the DLL file by following the instructions in this link: How to manually register a DLL or OCX file
  8. Open The Financial Edge and select "Plug-Ins/Miscellaneous".
  9. Run "992192".
*Please note, this plugin will unmark the Enforce Password Policy for the bbdba SQL login to prevent the account from locking.

For version 7.87 patch 23 and lower:
  1. Exit and sign out of The Financial Edge.
  2. Reboot the workstation
