Note: Before you add a parent organization relationship to a constituent record, identify the relationship types you use to identify the relationship between the organization and its parent and also the relationship type you will use to identify the reciprocal relationship. How to add a relationship type

Add a Parent Organization
You will know an organization does not have a parent organization assigned when the Parent field in the information tile on the constituent record is empty:

To add a parent organization:
  1. In the constituent record for whom you want to add a parent organization, click on the Relationship tab and then click on Add Organization

  2.  In the Add Relationship window, search and add the name of the parent organization in the "Related Organization" field
  3. Mark the check box ".... is the parent organization" 
  4. Altru by default may use Subsidiary and Parent Corporation as the relationship types but you can choose your own as needed 
  5. Review any of the other fields that are relevant and then click Save

Edit a Parent Organization
In the constituent record we can see the Parent organization that has been assigned to a particular record:

To delete an existing parent relationship:
  1. Select the Relationship tab
  2. Click on the drop-down arrows next to the parent organization record and click Delete

To swap out this existing parent organization with another organization:
Follow the steps mentioned earlier to add a parent organization relationship and Altru will automatically replace the existing parent organization with the new one.
  1. In the constituent record for whom you want to add a parent organization, select the Relationship tab and then click Add Organization
  2. In the Add Relationship window, search and add the name of the parent organization in the "Related Organization" field
  3.  Mark the check box ".... is the parent organization"
  4. Altru by default may use Subsidiary and Parent Corporation as the relationship types but you can choose your own as needed
  5. Review any of the other fields that are relevant and then click Save

  6. The information tile on the constituent record will now automatically reference the new parent organization:

  7. Please note that while the parent organization relationship has been replaced, the original relationships with the previous organization remain. You can see in the screenshot below the previous parent relationship types are retained. You may want to either edit or delete the relationships with the previous parent organization to avoid any potential confusion
