Error: The constituents could not be merged because both constituents have registrations for the same event and one or both of the constituents have event registration payments or event registration payments pending in an uncommitted batch.

While merging constituents users may encounter the error: "The constituents could not be merged because both constituents have registrations for the same event and one or both of the constituents have event registration payments or event registration payments pending in an uncommitted batch. The payments may be duplicates."
The most common cause of this issue is that the source duplicate record is registered for the same event as the target record. To resolve this issue the duplicate registration and any associated revenue must be temporarily reallocated during the merge process.
  1. Navigate to the duplicate event registration for the source record.
  2. Click on the payment link below "Payment history".
  3. Click "Edit posted payment" and note the Revenue ID.
  4. Delete the Event Registration application line.
  5. Re-apply the gift as a donation and select a designation.
  6. Select an Adjustment Reason code and save.
  7. Navigate back to the event registration and delete the registration.
  8. Run the constituent merge process.
  9. Navigate to the event and add the registration removed from step 7 back to the constituent record.
  10. Navigate to the Revenue ID and click "Edit posted payment".
  11. Remove the application of donation and reapply the gift towards the event registration added on step 9.
