Note: These steps only have to be done if using IE. If using Chrome, you can skip this step and proceed to Step 2. 

Set up Trusted Sites and Enable Active X
  1. In Internet Explorer, click Tools or the gear icon.  
    • Note: If using Windows 8 or Windows 10 operating system, open Internet Explorer from the desktop instead of the tiles.  To get to the desktop version, hold down the Windows key and press the D key at the same time.
  2. Select Internet Options
  3. On the Security tab, click Trusted Sites
  4. Click Sites.
  5. Enter the following sites and click Add after each one:
    • https://*
  6. Click Close.
  7. Click Custom Level on the Security tab
  8. In the ActiveX controls and plug-ins section, mark to enable automatic prompting of ActiveX controls
  9. Click OK
  10. Click OK again.
Add Compatibility View Settings
  1. In Internet Explorer, click Tools or the gear icon
  2. Select Compatibility View Settings, click add
  3. Click Close
  4. Close IE and reopen


Download Workstation Interface

For Internet Explorer
  1. Log into Altru
  2. Go to Tickets, click Print Setup
  3. Click Install the Workstation Interface. You will receive a prompt asking if you want a software utility from Blackbaud, Inc to make changes. Once you click yes, you will then need to click on Workstation Interface to add the ActiveX control to the workstation. This will load the utility on this computer system.
    • Note: If you do not get these prompts, ensure you do not have a pop-up blocker that is blocking this.  In Internet Explorer, you may see a blue circle with a line through it in the address bar.  Click on this to turn off the pop-up blocker temporarily.  Then you should get the prompt pop ups.
For Google Chrome
  1. Log into Altru
  2. Go to Tickets, Click Print Setup
  3. Click Install the browser extension in the Workstation Interface section. This will open a window that will take you to the Google Chrome Web Store.
  4. Click Add extension, then click add extension again on the"Add Print for Blackbaud Altru" popup Window
  5. Once the extension is installed go back to the Print setup page using steps 1 & 2. Then click Install the Workstation Interface for Chrome. Follow the prompts to install the workstation interface


Add Your Workstation 
  1. From Tickets, Click Workstations
  2. Click Add, enter the workstation name. Make sure it is intuitive so it is easy to recognize and different from other POS workstations.
  3. Enter the machine name.
    1. To find the machine name, go to Start, Control Panel, right click on Computer, click Properties. Copy the Computer Name (do not include the network information i.e. should just be entered as LWU840)
      • ​​Important Note: Even if Altru says Machine name is confirmed, the machine name has to be less than 15 characters. If it is more than 15 characters, click Change Settings and change the computer name prior to entering into Altru
  4. On the Printers tab, click Add and select each printer (Receipt printer & Ticket printer)
    • Important Note: When adding a printer to a workstation, ensure that the printer does not share the name of a printer on another Altru workstation. For example, if you have two workstations with a printer named EPSON TM-T88V, this will cause slowness in receipt printing. Each printer should have a unique name for optimal performance (for example: Receipt Printer Workstation 1, Receipt Printer Workstation 2). 
  5. On the Cash Drawer tab, click Edit and select the receipt printer
  6. Enter the printer codes to pop open the cash drawer.
  7. In the cash drawer payment methods, click add, select cash, check, credit, etc
  8. Click Save

Add your printers to the Printer List
  1. From Tickets, click Print Setup
  2. Click Printer Lists
  3. Click Edit on receipt printer, select the new receipt printer 
    • Important Note: Ensure that the receipt printer falls under the receipt printer list, and not in a separate list (see screenshot below)
  4. Click Edit on ticket printer, select the new ticket printer 
    • Important Note: Ensure that the ticket printer falls under the ticket printer list, and not a separate list (see screenshot below)
Printer Lists


Complete a Test Print for a Receipt
  1. From Sales, click Order Search, click Search
  2. Select an order
  3. On the Sales Documents tab, click Print
  4. Select the document to print, click Print
Complete a Test Print for a Ticket
  1. From Sales, Select Order Search, Click search
  2. Select an order that has a ticket associated with it
  3. On the tickets tab, click Print

Test Popping the Cash Drawer
  1. From Sales, click No Sale/Open Cash Drawer
  2. Select other as the reason, click Save
